we didn't stay but went for a birthday meal. The service was average. We ordered our meals and 1 person asked for peas and carrots instead of broccoli and mange tout as they didn't like mange tout. The meals all came with peas only, when asked about the carrots we were told there wasn't any, the person having the broccoli and mange tout only got broccoli ( which had to be sent back as it was freezing) - there was no mange tout.!!!! service was slow and the waitress not very communicative - weren't told soup of the day or the cheesecake of the day. One person asked for coffee and was later told 'sorry we have run out of coffee beans! I think that the machine had been switched off for the night and they couldn't be bothered switching it back on! Food was ok despite their claim 'While we don’t take ourselves too seriously at The Bal, we do take what goes on our plates very seriously indeed. Our Chef, Elaine Crosby, produces food that satisfies the eye, palate and wallet - all freshly cooked to order. So, if you’re looking for proper pub grub done with proper care, consideration and flair, you’ll know to book at The Balcomie.
